An evening with Eve Branson :
4th June 2013 at the Traveller’s Club at 6.30pm, Eve Branson, mother of BMS committee member Vanessa Branson and mother of Sir Richard Branson, will be entertaining us in an informal discussion with BBC journalist and author Richard Hamilton. At 89, Eve is more active than ever. Eve Branson Foundation, Kasbah Tamadot and Virgin Unite work hand in hand to improve living standards in the communities around the property near Marrakech. This effort is spearheaded by Eve Branson, known to us as Richard’s mum! The Eve Branson Foundation aims to help the local people in the long term by setting up sustainable enterprises which so far have included a carpet workshop and a craft house run and managed by locals.
Eve will also be telling us about her book “Mum’s the word”.

The paintings stem from numerous sketches made by Hugh and Paul during a visit to Essaouira in May 2010.
In recent years, they have painted together in Gascony, Corsica and the Pyrenees; and have had two previous exhibitions – at Oriel College, Oxford (2008) and the Arts Club, London (2009).

The talk will present the past and present weaving production of the Jebel Sirwa region and will highlight the significance of this income generating activity for the Sirwa comminities today .
The talk will follow the presentation by committee members of our activities.

WHAT A NIGHT THAT WAS! Abdul, catering manager at the hotel again gave us a beautifully decorated room, the food was delicious and the buzz was fantastic. Entertainment was provided by Passamezzo, a Renaissance group and Zephyros Ensemble, 2 young and talented musicians, a violonist and a folk guitarist.

WOMEN’S PORTRAITS THROUGH THE AGES : AN AFTERNOON TEA AT THE NATIONAL GALLERY WITH LYDIA BAUMAN, Saturday 11th June 2011, 2pm, meeting in the Sainsbury Wing.
This is a 1.5 – 2 hours tour offered by Lydia, an artist and official National Gallery guide, in which she will trace the changing concepts of feminine beauty and perceptions of women and their role in society in great paintings from early Renaissance to the 19th century . The talk will be followed by a delicious tea at the National Dining Rooms.
